International Mother Language Day 2020

  • Friday, February 21, 2020

Every two weeks a language disappears taking with it an entire cultural and intellectual heritage. (UNESCO)

To promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism, International Mother Language Day has been observed every year since February 2000. According to the research conducted by United Nations, at least 43% of the estimated 6000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world.

TKS believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies. Therefore, TKS celebrates “International Mother Language Day” on 21st February every year to aware students about the importance of mother languages. To promote mother tongues of Pakistan, TKS students will give presentations or prepare short skits/performances on “Languages and Cultures of Pakistan” in their own mother tongue.
