Although much progress has been made in improving literacy rates since the observance of first International Literacy Day, illiteracy remains a global problem. There are thought to be more than 750 million adults around the world who cannot read.
"Pakistan has more than 200 million people, 2/3 of its population is less than 30 years old. Pakistan needs at least twice the number of schools than the existing ones, if we want to increase the literacy rate of Pakistan. I believe that the future of Pakistan is in the hands of educationists because they are the ones who are shaping the destiny of our nation." – Prof Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad
