Every two weeks a language disappears taking with it an entire cultural and intellectual heritage. (UNESCO)
To promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism, International Mothers Language Day has been observed every year since February 2000. According to the research conducted by United Nations, at least 43% of the estimated 6000 languages spoken in the world are endangered. Only a few hundred languages have genuinely been given a place in education systems and the public domain, and less than a hundred are used in the digital world.
TKS believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies. Therefore, TKS will celebrate “International Mothers Language Day” on 21st February to create awareness among students about the importance of mother languages. To promote mother tongues of Pakistan, TKS students will also give presentations or prepare short skits/performances on “Languages and Cultures of Pakistan” in their own mother tongue.
