Eid-ul-Adha is an important festival in the Islamic calendar. The day commemorates the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim in sacrificing his son on the behest of Allah. The sacrifice was a trial of Hazrat Ibrahim’s devotion, one which he passed successfully, and Allah sent a lamb from heaven to serve as a sacrifice instead, sparing his son. The act demonstrates extreme faithfulness to the Creator and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide through the sacrifice of animals. The day prompts Muslims to consider their own piety and to ask for the strength to increase their fidelity to Allah.
Like many Islamic festivals, Eid-ul-Adha serves as a day for Muslims to demonstrate charity towards the poor and the needy, with a large portion of the meat from sacrificed animals going to the destitute. TKS schools nationwide encourage their students to celebrate this day in order to bring about awareness of the conditions in which many of the poverty-stricken peoples of Pakistan exist, and to help them through the distribution of food and money.
